Says bandits’ sophisticated weapons prove official backing for terrorism.
Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, has accused top Nigerian politicians and government officials of being behind the lingering insecurity and terrorism across the country.
In a video interview circulating on social media on Wednesday, El-Zakzaky alleged that the political class engineered the violence and has the capacity to end it immediately if willing.

“The insecurity problem in Nigeria was created by politicians in power. If they want to stop it today, they can, because they engineered it,” he said.
The Shi’ite leader questioned how rural bandits and herdsmen—traditionally known as cattle rearers—suddenly gained access to high-grade military equipment, including armoured vehicles, advanced rifles, and drones.

“How come those known to be cattle rearers now possess guns? How come the so-called bandits have armoured vehicles and drones? Where did these weapons come from?” he asked.
El-Zakzaky further accused the United States of creating and funding Boko Haram, ISWAP, and ISIS, alleging that the country’s counter-terrorism interventions are a pretext for exploiting Africa’s natural resources.
“The US created Boko Haram, they funded Boko Haram, they created ISWAP and ISIS. Their threat to help Nigeria fight terrorism is only to steal resources.
“They go to areas with gold, oil, gas and other minerals under the guise of protection,”he claimed.
He argued that foreign interests cannot provide solutions to the insecurity they allegedly helped to engineer, warning that such involvement leads to “mass killings of people.”
The IMN leader insisted that the scale and sophistication of weapons used by bandits in the North-West and North-Central regions raise pressing questions about their sources.
“Who is supplying tanks to herdsmen in the bush? Who is arming them with weapons the Nigerian Army struggles to acquire?” he asked.
