The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has confirmed an explosion on the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline, raising fresh safety concerns for nearby communities.
According to NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, the incident occurred at approximately 5:50 PM on December 10, 2025, near Tebijor, Okpele, and Ikpopo communities in the Gbaramatu Kingdom, Delta State.

Preliminary findings suggest a pressure drop on the affected line, consistent with a loss of containment on a pipeline operated by NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company. The exact cause is still under investigation.
Odeh emphasized that the safety of residents and environmental protection are the company’s top priorities. Emergency response procedures have been activated, and NNPC is coordinating with government agencies and community leaders to contain the impact.
