John Cena’s WWE journey came full circle at the Capital One Arena on December 13, 2025. Known for his unparalleled charisma and athleticism, Cena entered the ring one last time, facing Gunther in a match that captivated fans from start to finish. After nearly 25 minutes of intense action, Cena finally tapped out, signaling the end of his in-ring career.

Cena debuted in WWE in 2001 as The Prototype, later wrestling under his real name and evolving into the beloved “Doctor of Thuganomics” persona. Over his 24-year career, Cena won 17 world titles, headlined six WrestleMania main events, and became one of the most recognized faces in professional wrestling.

His retirement tour began at the Royal Rumble in January, included a surprising heel turn at Elimination Chamber, and saw him regain the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania by defeating Cody Rhodes. Cena’s final tournament opponent was determined after a series of matches, culminating in Gunther submitting Cena with a sleeper hold. Fans watched in disbelief, many visibly emotional as the legendary wrestler tapped out for the first time in over 20 years.

In a heartfelt farewell, Cena left his wristbands and shoes in the ring, saluted the crowd, and exited without a speech. WWE superstars, including CM Punk and Cody Rhodes, celebrated Cena’s career by presenting their titles to honor him, while Triple H showcased a special video tribute.
