Popular Lagos-based TikTok star and livestreamer Hamzat Habeeb, widely known as Peller, has been hospitalised after deliberately crashing his car during a live TikTok broadcast on the Lekki-Epe Expressway, sparking widespread concern over mental health among online influencers.

The incident occurred on Sunday while the content creator was livestreaming a session he titled “RIP Peller”, which quickly went viral across social media platforms.

Peller, who was alone in his newly acquired Mercedes-Benz, appeared emotionally distressed during the broadcast. Viewers noticed him making an emotional phone call, reportedly to his girlfriend, Jarvis, amid rumours of a breakup.

At a point during the livestream, the TikToker made alarming statements that unsettled viewers.

“I will use this car and have an accident right now,” he said, before adding, “I’m scared. I’m scared.”

Moments later, he reportedly stated: “If you leave me, people will mock me… Thank you, I’m going to kill myself.”

Shortly after, the livestream showed him driving off before ramming the vehicle into a stone barrier, causing extensive damage to the car.

Videos circulating online captured bystanders rushing to the scene to assist him before he was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The extent of his injuries remains unclear as of the time of filing this report.

Confirming awareness of the incident, the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, said the command was still gathering details from the Divisional Police Officer in the area and would provide an update.

The incident has reignited conversations online, with many fans and social media users urging greater attention to mental health challenges, particularly among influencers constantly under public pressure.

Peller had previously made headlines in August after he was abducted by armed men while livestreaming, an incident that also drew national attention.
