Clifford Joseph Harris Jr., popularly known as T.I, has explained his stance on religion, revealing that he does not attend church despite being raised in a deeply Christian home.
The Atlanta-born rapper made the comments during a recent conversation with gospel singer Kirk Franklin, where he spoke candidly about his personal faith and his distrust of organised religion.

According to T.I, his upbringing exposed him to prayer, scripture, and spiritual discipline through his grandmother and aunt, both of whom were strong believers. However, he said his personal experiences over time made him question the authenticity of church practices.
“I have never been a church person. I grew up in a strong Christian household. My grandma and auntie were heavy in prayer. I know how to pray, I know the word, and I know God is real,” he said.

The rapper went further to describe the church as more of a business than a spiritual institution, accusing some clergy of manipulating scripture for personal gain.
“To be honest, I don’t think the church is real. I think it’s a business. It’s like a show, public speaking, like a TED Talk. Sometimes, clergies twist the word of God to benefit themselves,” T.I stated.
He also rejected the idea that financial contributions such as tithes are necessary for divine blessings, saying he does not believe money should stand between a person and God.
“Y’all telling me I gotta pay somebody for my God to hear my prayer? Man, I’m out,” he added.
T.I concluded by saying he prefers a direct relationship with God and does not believe there should be a middleman in the form of a pastor or clergy.
