In the viral video, the councillor is seen sitting on his motorcycle when the driver suddenly approaches and begins punching and slapping him repeatedly. Despite the councillor’s visible distress and repeated pleas for mercy, the attacker continues the assault without restraint.

Several bystanders attempted to intervene, urging the driver to stop. Their efforts were unsuccessful as the attacker became more hostile, threatening anyone who tried to step in. The situation escalated further when the driver, speaking in Hausa, angrily questioned why the councillor would see himself as a “mate” of the Chief of Staff, suggesting the assault was driven by perceived disrespect.

At one point in the footage, the driver is seen headbutting the councillor while others look on helplessly. The scene has since drawn widespread condemnation, with many Nigerians calling it an abuse of power and a dangerous display of impunity.

As of the time of filing this report, the Gombe State Government and the Office of the Chief of Staff have not issued any official statement regarding the incident. However, calls for a full investigation and appropriate punishment continue to grow across social media and civil society circles.

A concerned resident quoted in the video reactions said, “If this can happen to an elected councillor in public, what chance does an ordinary citizen have?”

The incident has reignited debates about official misconduct, the conduct of government aides, and accountability within political offices in Nigeria.
