The AFCON 2025 winner prize money has been raised to $10 million, following a major decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to increase rewards at Africa’s biggest football tournament, scheduled to hold in Morocco, the highest payout in the history of the tournament.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe announced the increase on Saturday after a meeting of the CAF Executive Committee in Rabat, Morocco, a day before the opening match of the competition.

According to CAF, the new figure represents a 43 per cent increase from the $7 million paid to champions Côte d’Ivoire at the 2023 edition of the tournament.

“The prize money for the winner represents a 43 per cent increase from the previous edition,” CAF said in a statement published on its official website.

The football body also revealed that the runners-up at AFCON 2025 will receive $4 million, while the two semi-finalists will earn $2.5 million each.

CAF explained that the prize structure reflects a steady rise in earnings over recent tournaments. Winners of AFCON Cameroon 2021 earned $5 million, which increased to $7 million in Côte d’Ivoire 2023, before reaching $10 million for the Morocco edition, a 100 per cent increase in four years.

Motsepe said the increment is part of CAF’s broader plan to enhance the value, competitiveness and global appeal of Africa’s flagship football competition.

The AFCON Morocco 2025 tournament is scheduled to run from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, with top national teams across the continent competing for the historic prize.
