The Federal Government has declared that there will be no hiding place for terrorists and criminal elements operating in Nigeria’s forests.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated this on Monday in Abuja during an end-of-the-year press briefing, while reviewing the government’s fight against insecurity.
According to the minister, the year 2025 witnessed a presidential declaration of a nationwide security emergency, which is expected to translate into large-scale recruitment into the Armed Forces and the Nigeria Police Force in the coming months.

He said the security strategy also includes the deployment of trained and well-equipped forest guards to secure forests and other vulnerable locations across the country.
“What we used to have in the past were vast forest areas that were largely unmanned, creating safe havens for terrorists and bandits,” Idris said.
“With this declaration by Mr President and the ongoing recruitment drive, there will be no hiding place for terrorists and criminals in our forests,” he added.
The government has repeatedly vowed to intensify operations against banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping, especially in forested areas that have long served as hideouts for criminal groups.
