The commission will not update its website or acknowledge the faction’s national officers until matters are resolved in court.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has refused to recognise the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing unresolved legal issues.
In a letter dated December 22, 2025, and signed by INEC Secretary Dr. Rose Oriaran-Anthony, the commission explained that it could not act on requests to acknowledge or upload on its website the list of national officers reportedly elected at the PDP National Convention held on November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan.

“The commission’s position is guided by subsisting court decisions and pending litigation relating to the leadership crisis within the PDP.It would be improper to recognise any factional officers while the matter remains before the courts.”the letter read.
The leadership dispute has divided the party into rival factions, with each group claiming legitimacy over the PDP’s national executive structure.
