The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has reported a significant reduction in measles transmission across 20 states, according to its Measles Situation Report for November 2025.

Despite the decline in confirmed cases, the NCDC said 71 suspected measles cases were recorded during the reporting period in Delta, Kwara, Bayelsa, Jigawa and Akwa Ibom states, highlighting the need for continued vigilance.

The report further revealed that 47 local government areas (LGAs) across 20 states have recorded at least one confirmed measles case so far in 2025, showing that the disease has not been completely eliminated.

According to the agency, children aged nine to 59 months remain the most affected group, in line with global data that identifies under-five children as the most vulnerable to measles infection.

Reassuringly, the NCDC confirmed that no measles-related deaths were recorded in November, a development attributed to improved early detection, timely reporting and rapid response mechanisms.

The agency urged state governments, healthcare workers and development partners to sustain routine immunisation, strengthen disease surveillance and ensure prompt reporting of suspected cases to prevent a resurgence.

NCDC stressed that maintaining high vaccination coverage remains critical to reducing measles transmission and preventing potential outbreaks across the country.
