According to security sources, the bandits took advantage of the isolated location of the outpost and their superior numbers to overrun the facility within minutes.
An NSCDC officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the attackers made away with one rifle after ransacking the post.
“They came in large numbers and were better armed. Our men had to withdraw to avoid casualties. Unfortunately, they escaped with a rifle,” the source said.
No casualty was officially reported, but the incident has heightened fear among residents living close to the outpost, many of whom fled their homes during the attack.

Following the assault, security agencies in the state have launched a joint operation to track down the attackers and recover the stolen weapon.
The NSCDC command assured the public that measures are being taken to strengthen security around vulnerable formations and prevent a repeat of such incidents.
The attack adds to growing concerns over the increasing boldness of bandits targeting security facilities in parts of Niger State.
