The incident was confirmed in a statement issued by the Speaker’s spokesperson, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, who said the lawmaker died in active service.

“The late Hon. Ungogo died while on duty at the Kano State House of Assembly. He is survived by his wife and children,” the statement said.

Colleagues described Ungogo as a calm, disciplined, and committed legislator who remained actively involved in committee assignments and plenary sessions until his final moments.

Reacting to the development, Speaker of the Assembly, Jibril Falgore, expressed deep sorrow, condoling with the family of the deceased, his constituents, and members of the House.

“Hon. Ungogo’s death comes at a critical time when the people of Kano needed his contributions the most,” the Speaker said.

Ungogo was scheduled to be buried later on Wednesday at about 6:00pm, in line with Islamic rites, in his hometown.

Barely hours after Ungogo’s death, the Assembly was hit by another tragedy with the passing of Aliyu Sarkin Daneji, further compounding the grief within the House. As of Wednesday evening, details surrounding the circumstances of Daneji’s death had not been officially disclosed.

Following the second loss, plenary activities were disrupted, as lawmakers were visibly emotional and subdued. Several members described the loss of two colleagues in a single day as shocking and overwhelming.
