Senate President Godswill Akpabio has assured Nigerians that banditry and insecurity will be defeated in 2026, expressing optimism that renewed unity, faith, and collective effort will usher in lasting peace across the country.
Akpabio gave the assurance during a prayer and fasting service held in honour of the Akpabio family at the Methodist Church Nigeria, Cathedral of Unity, Ukana Ikot Ntuen, in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking to worshippers, the Senate President urged Nigerians to set aside differences, embrace peace, and work together for national development, stressing that progress can only thrive in a peaceful environment.
“I want to wish all Nigerians a prosperous and peaceful new year. I want to assure Nigerians that the new year will usher in renewed peace in our country,” Akpabio said.
Reflecting on the Christmas season, Akpabio described the birth of Jesus Christ as a symbol of hope and redemption, expressing confidence that Nigeria’s security challenges would be overcome.

“By reason of the birth of Jesus Christ, Nigerians will be redeemed from banditry and insurgency in the new year and beyond,” he added.
The Senate President also called on Nigerians, irrespective of political affiliation, to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in its efforts to address insecurity, noting that collaboration with international partners would further strengthen the fight against banditry.
Akpabio emphasised the importance of family unity, describing it as the foundation for peace and stability in society.
In her remarks, Mrs Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, wife of the Senate President, urged members of the Akpabio family to live in love, support one another, and put aside personal differences.
Similarly, the head of the Greater Akpabio Family, Chief Ekan Akpabio, encouraged family members to continue supporting Senator Akpabio and appealed to relatives in public office to remain connected to their roots and prioritise family welfare.
The annual prayer and fasting service, held every December 26, serves as a moment for thanksgiving and prayers for peace, unity, and progress in Nigeria.
