Gumi stresses coexistence, dialogue and neighbourly relations for national stability
Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has called on Nigerians to embrace peaceful coexistence with Fulani herdsmen, insisting that they are an integral part of the country and cannot be driven away.
Gumi made the remarks in a video shared on social media platform X, where he stated that the herdsmen are Nigerians and would continue to live within the country, just like other ethnic groups.

According to him, no group has the power to expel another, stressing that Fulani herdsmen are neighbours who should not be regarded as enemies under any circumstances.
The cleric warned that treating herdsmen as adversaries could expose the country to serious danger, noting that hostile relations could be exploited by external or internal enemies.
Gumi, a retired army officer, explained that neighbours often possess deep knowledge of one another’s daily lives, movements and vulnerabilities, which could be weaponised if relationships deteriorate.
“They are going nowhere. They are part of us, and we are part of them. We must learn to live together and never become enemies,” he said.
He added that true enemies could take advantage of internal divisions, urging Nigerians to prioritise unity, dialogue and peaceful coexistence in the interest of national security and stability.
