A member of the United States House of Representatives, Riley Moore, has attributed the absence of Christmas Day attacks in Nigeria this year to US military airstrikes against Islamist militants carried out on December 25.

Moore, who represents West Virginia’s 2nd District, made the claim in a post on his official X account on Saturday, contrasting this year’s situation with the previous two Christmas seasons, during which he said Christians were killed in violent attacks across parts of Nigeria.

According to the lawmaker, the 2025 Christmas period marked a departure from past bloodshed, as extremist groups were directly targeted rather than civilians.

“For the past two Christmases, Christians have been murdered in Nigeria. This year, thanks to @POTUS, Radical Islamic Terrorists were on the receiving end of 12 Tomahawk missiles as a present,” Moore wrote.

He added that the strikes were conducted in coordination with the Nigerian government, describing them as the first step toward restoring security and ending attacks on Christians in the country.

“The successful strikes on ISIS, in coordination with the Nigerian government, are just the first step to secure the country and end the slaughter of our brothers and sisters in Christ,” he said.

US President Donald Trump had earlier confirmed that American forces carried out deadly airstrikes against Islamic State (ISIS) targets in north-western Nigeria, particularly in Sokoto State.

Speaking via his Truth Social platform on Thursday, Trump warned that further attacks would follow if the militants continued killing Christians, adding that the Department of War executed what he described as “perfect strikes” against terrorist camps.

The airstrikes have since sparked widespread reactions across Nigeria, with officials confirming cooperation between both countries in the operation.
