Nigeria’s Super Eagles have secured qualification for the AFCON 2025 Round of 16 after edging Tunisia 3–2 in an intense Group C encounter at the Fez Stadium on Saturday. Goals from Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi, and Ademola Lookman proved decisive as Nigeria maintained their perfect start to the tournament.

The Super Eagles looked comfortable early on, racing into a three-goal lead and asserting their dominance against a Tunisian side that struggled to contain Nigeria’s attacking movement.

Osimhen opened the scoring late in the first half, rising above his markers to head home a pinpoint cross from Lookman. The goal capped a dominant opening spell where Nigeria controlled possession and dictated the tempo.

Just five minutes after the restart, captain Wilfred Ndidi doubled the lead, powering a header past goalkeeper Aymen Dahmen from another well-worked set piece. Tunisia’s aerial weakness continued to show, and Nigeria took full advantage.

On 67 minutes, Ademola Lookman added the third, calmly finishing from close range after a clever assist from Osimhen. At that point, the Super Eagles appeared to be cruising.

However, Tunisia mounted a late comeback. Montassar Talbi reduced the deficit with a header before Ali Abdi converted a penalty following a VAR review that ruled Bright Osayi-Samuel had handled the ball in the area.

Despite heavy pressure in added time, Nigeria held firm. Tunisia missed two late chances, allowing the Super Eagles to see out the game and secure all three points.

Speaking after the match, one of the Nigerian players said:

“This team showed character. We stayed calm under pressure and finished the job. That’s what matters at this stage.”

With the win, Nigeria top Group C with six points, while Tunisia remain on three. Tanzania and Uganda trail with one point each ahead of the final group matches.
