According to an official statement issued on Saturday by Samuel George, Ghana’s Commissioner for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, the coordinated raids were conducted in Tabora and Lashibi, two suburbs of Accra identified as cybercrime hotspots.

Security operatives reportedly apprehended 100 suspects in Tabora and 41 in Lashibi, bringing the total number of arrests to 141. Preliminary findings suggest that all the suspects are Nigerian nationals.

During the operation, law enforcement agencies recovered 38 laptops and 150 mobile phones, believed to have been used in carrying out various cyber-related financial crimes. Investigators said the suspects were allegedly involved in mobile money fraud, sextortion, wire fraud, romance scams, and other online financial schemes.

A Ghanaian landlord was also arrested for allegedly housing about 100 of the suspects in a single property. Authorities warned that property owners could face legal consequences if their premises are used to facilitate criminal activities.

“Forensic examinations of the seized electronic devices are ongoing, and anyone found culpable will be prosecuted in line with Ghanaian law,” the statement said.

The Ghanaian government reiterated its commitment to combating cybercrime, urging residents to report suspicious online activities.

While stressing that Ghana remains open to legitimate business and regional cooperation, officials warned that cybercriminals will be tracked, arrested and prosecuted without exception.
