  • Nigerian Air Force airstrikes have destroyed a key bandit logistics and bomb-making camp in Zamfara State.

  • The operation targeted hideouts linked to notorious bandit leader Kachalla Dogo Sule following deadly IED attacks.

  • Military authorities say the strikes significantly weakened the group’s ability to carry out further attacks.

The Nigerian military has confirmed a major air operation that led to the destruction of a logistics and explosives manufacturing camp belonging to notorious bandit leader, Kachalla Dogo Sule, in Zamfara State.

The airstrikes, carried out on Monday by the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (Sector 2), targeted Turba Hill in Tsafe Local Government Area, a location identified by intelligence sources as a long-standing hideout for armed groups operating across the North-West.

According to military sources, the operation was launched in response to a recent surge in improvised explosive device (IED) attacks along the Dan Sadau–Magami corridor, where civilians were reportedly killed and injured after explosives planted by bandits detonated along major routes.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said sustained aerial surveillance revealed unusual movement and coordinated activity at the location, prompting a precision strike.

Ejodame disclosed that post-strike assessments showed that the targeted structures were completely destroyed, with several bandits neutralised during the operation.

He added that the camp had served as a critical base for planning attacks and assembling explosive devices.

A second strike reportedly triggered intense fires within Dogo Sule’s enclave, destroying multiple buildings believed to contain materials used for bomb production and operational coordination.

“The facility had strong links to the planning and execution of recent IED attacks. Its destruction has significantly disrupted the group’s operational capacity,” Ejodame stated.

While military authorities described the operation as a major success, security analysts and residents in the region have continued to raise concerns about the long-term effectiveness of airstrikes without sustained ground operations and community-based intelligence support.

Zamfara and other North-West states have experienced repeated cycles of bandit attacks, military offensives and renewed violence over the years.
