Crans-Montana, Switzerland — Several people have been killed while others sustained varying degrees of injuries following a fire outbreak during a New Year’s party at an Alpine ski resort in southern Switzerland.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday at Crans-Montana, a high-end holiday destination in the Valais canton, according to reports by CNN.
Confirming the development, Valais police spokesperson Gaetan Lathion said the fire erupted at about 1:30 a.m. at the Le Constellation lounge bar, where revellers had gathered to celebrate the New Year.

“This morning, January 1, 2026, a fire broke out around 1:30 a.m. at Le Constellation lounge bar in Crans-Montana in the canton of Valais,” Lathion said.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the exact number of casualties, noting that emergency response operations and investigations are still ongoing.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known, as firefighters and medical teams continued to secure the area and attend to victims.
Lathion added that more details would be released later in the day, with a joint press conference involving the police and the canton’s public prosecutor scheduled for around 10 a.m. local time.
Crans-Montana is a globally renowned ski resort that attracts thousands of visitors annually, particularly during the festive season.
