Super Eagles set for Morocco semi-final after historic Algeria win
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Nigeria’s Super Eagles following their emphatic 2–0 victory over Algeria in the quarter-final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
In a message shared via his official X handle on Saturday, Tinubu described the team’s display as brilliant and inspiring, assuring the players of the full support of Nigerians as they push for continental glory.

The Super Eagles sealed their semi-final place with goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams at the Stade de Marrakech, continuing an impressive run that has seen Nigeria win all five matches at the tournament so far.

Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, also applauded the team, praising their resilience and fighting spirit, which he said has lifted the hopes of millions of Nigerians.
Similarly, former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, hailed the Super Eagles’ dominant showing against Algeria, urging them to sustain their momentum as they edge closer to the AFCON title.
Nigeria’s win over Algeria marked their first-ever quarter-final victory against the North African side at the AFCON finals and extended their perfect record at the ongoing tournament.
The Super Eagles will now face host nation Morocco in the semi-final on Wednesday.
