Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (Rtd.), has explained why bodies of terrorists were not recovered after recent US airstrikes in Nigeria, saying the advanced nature of the weapons used made it impossible to find physical remains.

Speaking during an interview on ARISE Television’s Prime Time programme on Thursday, the former Chief of Defence Staff said the terrorists were neutralised using high-precision US weapons, including Tomahawk missiles, which leave no visible trace after impact.

According to him, the destruction caused by such weapons makes it unrealistic to expect physical evidence at the strike locations.

“They wouldn’t know, because the way they were neutralised, you wouldn’t see anything,” Musa said.

“It’s a new kind of weapon that was used: the Tomahawks.”

Addressing reports that some of the missiles allegedly failed to explode, the defence minister dismissed the claims, describing them as part of standard military strategy.

“That is all part of the tactics. In conflict attack, you deceive your enemy. Those are all part of it,” he explained.

Musa also revealed that while the US airstrikes were ongoing, Nigerian security forces were simultaneously carrying out coordinated operations across other terror-prone areas of the country.

He assured Nigerians that the joint military efforts were already yielding results and that more successes would soon be recorded.

“At least Nigerians are seeing the results, and they will see more things coming ahead,” he said.

“As we speak, the Nigerian Air Force, the Nigerian Navy, and the Army have been neutralising several other locations.”

The US military action followed Nigeria’s designation as a “country of particular concern” by former US President Donald Trump, over allegations of religious persecution, claims strongly denied by the Nigerian government.
