Learn to sort your problems yourselves — Shehu Sani tells Africa

  • Shehu Sani urges African nations to take responsibility for resolving their political and governance challenges without relying on Western intervention.

  • Africa must adapt to global shifts, as the US and EU are increasingly preoccupied with domestic and international crises, leaving African issues unattended.

  • Sorting African problems internally, Sani says, is now inevitable in an era of declining Western interest in African elections and governance standards.

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has advised African countries to stop depending on Western nations to resolve their internal political and governance problems.

Sani made the call in a statement posted on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, stressing that global attention has shifted away from Africa.

According to him, the European Union is currently preoccupied with issues surrounding reenland, while the United States is grappling with complex domestic and global challenges. As a result, he noted that Western powers now show little concern for the credibility of elections in African countries such as Uganda and Tanzania.

Sani said Africa has entered an era where nations must independently confront their realities, regardless of whether citizens approve of their governments or not.

He added that reliance on foreign intervention is no longer realistic, insisting that Africans must learn to resolve their disputes, strengthen institutions, and take full ownership of their political destiny.
