Fubara impeachment plot: APC keeps position secret amid Rivers crisis

  • APC on Fubara impeachment says its official position will be made public at the appropriate time.

  • Rivers political crisis linked to impeachment move against Governor Sim Fubara remains under APC watch.

  • Felix Morka assures APC engagement, says party is actively involved despite silence.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said it will disclose its official stance on the ongoing impeachment plot against Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, when the time is right.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, made this known while addressing concerns that the APC had remained silent over the escalating political crisis in Rivers State.

Morka clarified that the party is not detached from developments in the state, stressing that its silence should not be mistaken for indifference.

The crisis followed moves by the Rivers State House of Assembly to initiate impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara over allegations of misappropriation of funds and other misconduct.

The impeachment move is widely seen as a fallout of the intense political power struggle between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over control of the state’s political structure.

Speaking during an interview on TVC’s Beyond Headlines, Morka said the APC was deliberately allowing internal processes to run their course before making any public declaration.

“The fact that I’m not willing to make a comment does not mean that the APC is disengaged in Rivers State,” Morka said.

He added that the APC remains a responsible political party that handles sensitive issues with maturity and caution.

“When the time comes to share our position or decisions on ongoing discussions, I will come forward and state it clearly. There are processes that must be allowed to function so that, at the end of the day, we arrive at the right outcome,” he explained.

The APC’s statement suggests the party is closely monitoring the Rivers political crisis while awaiting the conclusion of internal consultations and constitutional procedures.
