Christian missionary was killed in Plateau State after suspected herdsmen attacked commuters in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, leaving three adults dead and a three-month-old infant injured. The tragic incident has renewed concerns over worsening insecurity and repeated attacks on rural communities in the state.
The victims, identified as Rev. Bulus Madaki, his daughter, and his son-in-law, were attacked around 10 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2026, at a bridge linking the Gassa and Nding communities in Fan District, Barkin Ladi LGA.
Family sources said Rev. Madaki, a missionary with the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), had just been transferred from Zagun DCC to Gwol DCC in Plateau State. The family was travelling to the new posting when they were ambushed by armed men.
Confirming the incident, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, said the attackers were believed to be armed groups operating from nearby areas.
“The victims were ambushed by armed men suspected to be terrorists operating from the Jong area of Ropp District, believed to be their hideout,” Tengwong stated.
The attackers reportedly opened fire at close range. While the adults died at the scene, the three-month-old baby survived the attack but sustained injuries. She is currently receiving medical care at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH).
The Berom Youth Moulders-Association strongly condemned the killings, describing them as part of a worrying pattern of coordinated violence across Plateau State.
The group warned that such attacks are becoming frequent and urged security agencies to act swiftly to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
