The operations were jointly executed by Sector 2 of OPFY, the OPFY Mobile Strike Team, and the Defence Intelligence Agency Tactical Support Team.
During the raids and fighting patrols, troops arrested three suspects identified as Isiya Kwakwatawa, Ibrahim Dan Musulu, and Makau Lamba Goma. Four terrorists were neutralised, while others fled into nearby forests.
Items recovered included one PKT machine gun, five AK-47 rifles, three AK-47 magazines, 7.62mm special ammunition, Baofeng communication radios, and three motorcycles.
While returning from the operation and responding to a distress call over a suspected reprisal attack, OPFY Combat Team 1 was ambushed at Gidan Wagni while heading towards Kekun Waje.
The troops engaged the attackers and prevented further threats to surrounding communities. However, five soldiers and one police officer lost their lives during the encounter.
Reinforcements from the OPFY Mobile Strike Team and the 1 Brigade Quick Reaction Force were immediately deployed from forward operating bases in Kanoma and Kekun Waje. The counter-ambush operation was led by the Commander of 1 Brigade.
The combined forces forced the terrorists to retreat. Intelligence reports revealed that a notorious bandit leader known as Janwuya and Alhaji Bello, the deputy to Kachalla Soja, sustained serious gunshot injuries during the exchange.
Troops, supported by community vigilantes, have continued pursuit and clearance operations in the affected areas.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA said the situation is under control and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property while sustaining pressure on terrorist elements across the joint operations area.
The Theatre Commander condoled with the families of the fallen personnel and commended the troops for their courage, sacrifice, and professionalism, urging residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible information.
