The rescued victims were taken directly to a medical facility by the Chairman of Tsafe Local Government Area, alongside security personnel, after they were found in critical condition.

Medical sources confirmed that many of the victims were extremely weak, dehydrated, and injured. Some could not stand on their own due to hunger, exhaustion, and trauma suffered while in captivity.

One of the most heartbreaking cases involved a pregnant woman who endured months of harsh treatment while held by the gunmen. According to eyewitnesses, she went into labour shortly after being rescued and delivered her baby soon after.

Both the mother and her newborn were immediately placed under medical care.

“They were in a very bad state when they arrived. Some of them could barely talk or walk,” a local source familiar with the rescue said.

The rescue comes as insecurity continues to worsen in Tsafe Local Government Area, which residents describe as one of the most dangerous parts of Zamfara State.

Locals say attacks by gunmen have become more frequent and violent, forcing many families to abandon their homes and farmlands.

In 2022, hundreds of residents from Magazu and Marke communities fled their villages after repeated attacks, leaving behind farms, livestock, and livelihoods.

Zamfara State, along with other parts of Nigeria’s North-West, has suffered years of relentless banditry. Armed groups have killed thousands, destroyed villages, and imposed illegal levies on rural communities.

Those who fail to pay are often abducted or killed, trapping many residents in a cycle of fear, poverty, and displacement.
