Firefighters were immediately deployed from the service headquarters to the scene. On arrival, they discovered that dry grasses within the cemetery had caught fire and helped the flames spread quickly across parts of the burial site.

Confirming the incident on Thursday, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, said the fire was successfully contained before it could spread to other sections of the cemetery.

“Although the fire was contained, several parts of the cemetery were badly affected,” Abdullahi said.

He added that no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded during the incident.

According to the fire service, preliminary findings indicate that human activities were likely responsible for the outbreak, though investigations are still ongoing.
