Prosecuting counsel, Augustine Omhenemhen, told the court that the offence was committed on December 26, 2025, at about 3:00 p.m. in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

According to the prosecution, Emeka and other suspects currently at large allegedly attacked Obinna Edwin, a 19-year-old boy, during an argument. The prosecutor said the teenager was stabbed in the neck with a broken bottle, which later resulted in his death.

“The defendant unlawfully caused the death of Obinna Edwin during a disagreement,” Omhenemhen told the court.

He added that the alleged offence contravenes Sections 324 and 316 of the Criminal Law of Ondo State, 2006, which prescribe the death penalty for offenders.

The plea of the defendant was not taken. The prosecutor urged the court to remand Emeka in a correctional facility pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

However, defence counsel T.A. Dada appealed for an adjournment, stating that he intended to file a counter-affidavit challenging the prosecution’s remand application.

In her ruling, Chief Magistrate Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi ordered that the suspect be remanded in police custodypending the determination of the remand application.

The case was adjourned to February 4, 2026, for hearing and possible ruling.
