The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the interception of items suspected to be explosive devices during a routine stop-and-search operation in Saki, located in the Oke Ogun area of the state.
The development was disclosed on Sunday in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Olayinka Ayanlade.

According to the statement, police operatives, acting on credible intelligence, stopped a truck conveying materials believed to be explosive in nature.
“The truck and the suspected explosive materials were promptly secured and are currently in police custody,” Ayanlade said.
He added that the driver of the vehicle has been arrested and is currently assisting investigators as efforts continue to uncover the circumstances surrounding the transportation of the items.

Upon being briefed on the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Femi Haruna, immediately ordered a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
As part of the response, specialised personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit were deployed to safely secure the materials for forensic examination.
“Detailed forensic analysis has commenced to determine the exact nature of the items and their intended use,” the police spokesman noted.
The Command assured residents of the state that investigations are ongoing and that further updates will be communicated as necessary.
Recall that a police inspector was killed on Saturday when gunmen suspected to be bandits ambushed a police patrol team in the state.
