According to the police, Iyanu was admitted to the unlicensed clinic on January 4, 2026, for childbirth. During the delivery process, the procedure was reportedly poorly handled, leading to severe complications.
The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Sunday. He said the woman began bleeding excessively and later lost consciousness after the procedure.
“The Ondo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that it has commenced investigation into an alleged case involving the operation of an illegal medical facility in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State,” Jimoh said.
He explained that the case was reported by a concerned resident of the Sabo Area of Odigbo on January 18, 2026, at about 6:00 pm.
The suspects, Kehinde Olawuyi (36) and his wife, Eniola Olawuyi, were accused of running the clinic without proper medical registration or approval.
“It was alleged that the suspects unprofessionally handled the medical procedure, resulting in the victim bleeding profusely and losing consciousness,” the police spokesperson added.
Iyanu was later rushed to another hospital in Odigbo for emergency treatment but was confirmed dead shortly after arrival.
Preliminary police findings revealed that the suspects are not registered medical practitioners, confirming that the facility was operating illegally.
“The suspects are currently in police custody, and the case will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigation,” Jimoh stated.
The incident has sparked renewed concern over the activities of illegal clinics in Ondo State, especially their growing impact on maternal health and safety.
