The court heard that the offences were committed on June 15, 2025, at Kanjile Village, via Kulende area of Ilorin, where the convicts attacked Mr. Olubunmi Komolafe and his wife, Mrs. Adeola Morenikeji, at their farm.

According to the prosecution, the three men robbed the couple of their valuables, tied them up, and forcefully took Mrs. Morenikeji to a secluded location. The attackers later demanded a ₦5 million ransom from the family.

While delivering judgment, Justice Lawal narrated that during the attack, Tijani Usman sexually assaulted Mrs. Morenikeji, an act the court described as cruel and inhuman.

“The evidence before this court clearly proves the offences beyond reasonable doubt,” Justice Lawal said.

“The convicts acted together with a common intention and carried out the crimes in a brutal manner.”

The judge added that the law provided no room for leniency, stressing that crimes of such nature posed a serious threat to public safety.

He therefore sentenced the three convicts to death by hanging, in line with the provisions of the law.
