The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 14 suspected cultists who allegedly hijacked a corpse during a burial ceremony in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area of the state.
The Edo State Police Command has disclosed that 14 suspected cultists were arrested following a violent incident in which a corpse was allegedly hijacked during a burial ceremony in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, made this known in a statement issued on Monday, January 26, 2026, in Benin City.
According to her, the suspects invaded the burial ceremony and went on to attack two commercial motorcyclists, while also inflicting grievous injuries on other persons in the area.
“The suspects allegedly hijacked a corpse during a burial ceremony and attacked innocent citizens, including commercial motorcyclists, causing serious injuries,” Ikoedem said.
She added that the injured victims were immediately taken to the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital for medical treatment.
ASP Ikoedem listed the names of the arrested suspects as Promise Oyido, Jude Usidebhosoh, Mutairu Alhaji, Samson Usidehofo, Collins Esaigbe, Osemudiamen Iyere, Christian Akhare, Evidence Osamare, Joshua Augustine, Kelvin Micheal, Goddey Anuka, Blessed Ohue, Joseph Okhun, and Charles Okhare.
The police spokesperson noted that investigations into the incident are still ongoing, assuring residents that security has been strengthened in the area.
“Following swift police intervention, normalcy has been fully restored, and investigations are ongoing to ensure all those involved are brought to justice,” she added.
