Ogun APC says membership exercise is open to all eligible Nigerians
Professor Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State.
The former senator representing Ogun Central reportedly completed her electronic registration on Tuesday at Ibogun, Ward 11, in Ifo Local Government Area.

A close political associate, Biodun Ajayi, confirmed the development on Wednesday, saying the registration process was successfully concluded at the ward level.
Ajayi, a former chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government, described the move as a personal political decision by Prof. Obasanjo, who previously served as Ogun State Commissioner for Health and as a senator between 2007 and 2011.

When contacted, the Ogun State APC spokesperson, Femi Nuberu, declined to directly confirm or deny her membership but emphasised that the party’s ongoing registration exercise is open, free and accessible to all Nigerians of voting age.
He said the APC was recording an influx of new members across the state, which he described as a reflection of growing public confidence in the party at both state and federal levels.
A former lawmaker from the area also confirmed Prof. Obasanjo’s registration, noting that it came amid rising political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
The development has surprised some political observers, given earlier speculation that the former senator might align with another opposition party or remain outside active politics.
Prof. Obasanjo, an associate professor of public health based in the United States, has previously stated that she was not actively seeking elective office, although recent events have reignited discussions about a possible political comeback in Ogun Central.
