Bayelsa Pastor Arrested for Allegedly Hiring Cultist to Kill Rival Pastor Over Church Members

Operatives of the Bayelsa State Police Command have arrested a pastor for allegedly hiring a cult member to kill a rival pastor in a dispute said to be connected to church membership and property ownership.

The arrest was carried out by officers of the Police Command’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit following what authorities described as credible intelligence.

The suspect, identified as Pastor Elijah Oro, a native of Delta State, was arrested alongside Samuel Daniel, a 21-year-old alleged member of the Greenlanders cult group.

Police sources disclosed that Samuel Daniel was allegedly contracted to carry out the attack on a rival prophet in Bayelsa State.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, said the suspects were arrested in connection with an attempted attack on the unnamed prophet.

“On January 28, 2026, at about 10:35 a.m., operatives of the SWAT unit arrested Samuel Daniel, 21, of Nembe Ogbolomabiri Community, and Pastor Elijah Oro, 59, of Ozoro Community in Delta State,” Mohammed said.

According to the police spokesman, preliminary findings revealed that the young suspect was arrested at the premises of the targeted prophet and allegedly confessed to being a member of the Greenlanders cult.

“Initial investigation indicates that the suspect was allegedly hired by Pastor Elijah Oro,” DSP Mohammed added.

He stated that investigations are still ongoing to establish the full motive behind the alleged plot and determine the level of involvement of each suspect.

The police assured the public that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
