The category, which was created to spotlight African music on the global stage, once again featured strong Nigerian representation, with three Nigerian artistes making the final shortlist.

Announcing the result at the ceremony, the Recording Academy confirmed Tyla as the winner, drawing loud applause from the audience.

“Tyla wins Best African Music Performance,” the announcer declared on stage.

With the victory, Tyla becomes a two-time winner in the category. She first made history in 2024 when she won the inaugural award with her breakout global hit Water.

Her latest win further cements her growing influence in African pop music and her expanding global reach.

Despite Nigeria’s strong presence in the nominations, Nigerian artistes went home without the award in this category at the 2026 ceremony.
