The Yelwata massacre occurred in June 2025 in Yelwata community, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

The violence reportedly began late on June 13 and extended into the early hours of June 14, when suspected armed herdsmen launched coordinated attacks on homes, a local market and a Catholic mission in the area.

During the assault, several houses were set ablaze, residents were brutally attacked, and gunmen engaged security operatives in sporadic exchanges of gunfire.

Reports from the affected community indicate that more than 100 people were killed, while about 3,000 residents were displaced and forced to flee their homes.

President Tinubu had earlier condemned the killings and directed security and law enforcement agencies to track down those responsible and ensure they face prosecution.

The Federal Government said the planned arraignment underscores its resolve to uphold justice and restore confidence among affected communities in Benue State.
