APC accused of prioritising politics over governance
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said it is intensifying efforts to rebuild internal cohesion and form broad political alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections, vowing to do everything necessary to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy.
The Caretaker National Vice-Chairman (South-South) of the party, Emmanuel Ogidi, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen on Sunday.

Ogidi said despite ongoing internal disagreements, the PDP remains focused on repositioning itself as a strong and credible opposition capable of restoring public confidence in democratic governance.
He acknowledged that the party is currently grappling with internal challenges but stressed that these would not derail its resolve to defend democracy and promote national stability.

According to him, the PDP recognises the gravity of Nigeria’s political situation and understands the expectations of Nigerians who see the party as a stabilising force in the country’s democratic process.
Ogidi said the party is determined to overcome its difficulties and would take decisive steps to ensure democracy is not undermined.
He warned that the absence of democratic principles could push the country towards instability, insisting that the PDP would not allow Nigeria to drift into what he described as a “banana republic.”
The PDP chieftain said the party plans to reach out to individuals across the political spectrum, including members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, as part of efforts to build alliances ahead of 2027.
According to him, the party is exploring ways to strengthen the opposition and prevent what it views as further deterioration of democratic institutions.
Ogidi accused the APC of focusing more on political campaigns than governance, questioning why the ruling party appeared preoccupied with elections less than two years into its tenure.
He said the PDP’s core agenda going into the next general elections would centre on protecting democracy, promoting national unity and offering Nigerians a credible alternative to the current administration.
Ogidi assured that the party would do everything within its capacity to prevent democratic erosion and reposition itself to meet the aspirations of Nigerians.
