The 28-year-old forward has signed a long-term contract that will keep him at the Metropolitano until June 2030, as Atletico look to strengthen their attack while chasing Barcelona at the top of La Liga.

With the move, Lookman becomes the first English-born player to feature in the Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A and La Liga, a rare milestone achieved by only a select group of players in European football.

Lookman arrives in Spain after an outstanding spell in Italy, where he scored 55 goals and provided 27 assists since joining Atalanta in 2022 from RB Leipzig. His most iconic moment came in 2024, when he scored a stunning hat-trick in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen, securing Atalanta’s first-ever European trophy.

That same year, the London-born star was crowned African Footballer of the Year and made history as the only African player on the men’s Ballon d’Or shortlist, finishing 14th overall.

Speaking after the announcement, Atletico said the club was delighted to add a player of Lookman’s quality and experience, praising his “decisive impact at the highest level.”

Born in London, Lookman represented England at youth level, winning the Under-20 World Cup in 2017, before committing his international future to Nigeria. He made his senior debut for the Super Eagles in 2022 and has since become a key figure for the national team.

Lookman began his professional career at Charlton Athletic in 2015 before earning a move to Everton, where he scored on his Premier League debut. After spells in Germany with Leipzig and loan stints at Fulham and Leicester City, he found his stride in Italy, form that has now earned him a majormove to Atletico Madrid.
