In a statement jointly signed by the National Chairman of the PDP National Caretaker Working Committee, Abdulrahman Muhammed, and the National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, the NEC said the resolution followed extensive deliberations on the state of the party, the political climate, recent court judgments and preparations for key internal activities.

The committee unanimously reconfirmed and ratified all decisions taken at the Emergency 104th NEC meeting of December 7, 2025, stressing that all actions arising from those resolutions remain valid, lawful and binding on the party.

NEC also restated its commitment to the rule of law and judicial independence, describing both as pillars of democratic governance. In this context, it welcomed the judgment of the Federal High Court in Ibadan, which upheld the legality of the party’s leadership structure and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to recognise the duly constituted PDP National Caretaker Committee.

According to the statement, the March 28–29 convention will be convened to elect members of the National Working Committee, NWC, as well as other statutory organs of the party.

The NEC further approved the extension of the tenure of the National Caretaker Working Committee, alongside affected state and zonal caretaker committees, pending the successful conduct of the national convention and subsequent congresses at state and zonal levels.

To ensure a smooth process, the NEC mandated the National Caretaker Committee to immediately constitute convention sub-committees and begin full logistical, administrative and consultative preparations aimed at delivering a transparent, inclusive and credible convention.

The committee urged PDP members across all levels to remain united, disciplined and loyal, warning against actions capable of deepening internal divisions.

Reaffirming its resolve to rebuild the party, the NEC said the PDP remains committed to strengthening internal democracy, restoring stability and repositioning itself for future electoral contests.

Party stakeholders, supporters and members, both within Nigeria and in the diaspora, were also called upon to remain law-abiding and steadfast in upholding the ideals of the PDP.
