Governor Seyi Makinde has taken a sharp swipe at Nyesom Wike, blaming the former Rivers State governor for ongoing divisions rocking the PDP. Although Makinde did not mention Wike by name, his message was clear and direct.
Speaking metaphorically, Makinde likened certain individuals in the party to “vagabonds,” suggesting they thrive only where disorder exists.

“In Yorubaland, we say that when a house or compound is peaceful, it means the vagabonds there have not grown up,” Makinde said.
“The vagabonds in the PDP grew up in 2015. They had their time. Ten years later, they came back to practise the same vagabondry, but they were expelled in November 2025.”
The Oyo governor stressed that the PDP has moved past that phase and no longer tolerates actions that threaten internal peace.
Makinde’s comments appear to be a response to Wike’s recent statement at a PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, where the FCT minister openly declared interest in the affairs of the Oyo State chapter of the party.
Wike had defended his involvement, insisting it was driven by concern for the party’s survival.
“I am interested in the survival and success of this party,” Wike said.
“I am also interested in what is happening in the Oyo State PDP.”
Since the 2023 general elections, the PDP has remained deeply divided, with many party leaders accusing Wike of encouraging factionalism and weakening party structures. Critics argue that his continued disagreements with key stakeholders have slowed efforts to rebuild the party as a strong opposition force.
Wike, however, has repeatedly dismissed claims of sabotage, maintaining that his actions are aimed at strengthening the PDP rather than serving personal ambitions.
The public exchange between Makinde and Wike highlights the unresolved power struggles within the PDP, raising fresh concerns about the party’s readiness for the 2027 elections.
