The call was made in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, by the South-South Vanguard Renaissance Group, through its spokesperson, Mr Henry Tamuno, in a communiqué issued on Tuesday.

Tamuno said members of the group believe Jonathan remains a credible natiowl figure whose experience in governance could be useful at a time when many Nigerians are grappling with economic hardship and governance concerns.

According to him, Jonathan’s years in office and calm leadership style still resonate with Nigerians across different regions of the country.

“Former President Goodluck Jonathan is a seasoned democrat whose leadership record deserves renewed consideration at this critical point in our national journey,” Tamuno said.

He stressed that the group’s appeal was not driven by regional sentiment, adding that leadership should be judged based on competence, experience, and a clear national outlook rather than ethnicity or geography.

Tamuno noted that many Nigerians are currently facing hardship under the administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and are eager for leadership that prioritises economic stability and inclusive governance.

“It is important to avoid framing the 2027 election along regional lines,” he said. “Jonathan enjoyed widespread support across the country during his time as president, and that national appeal remains relevant.”

The group maintained that the 2027 general election offers Nigerians an opportunity to reassess leadership choice and demand policies that promote unity, economic recovery, and good governance.

Tamuno also urged citizens to remain actively engaged in the democratic process and to continue expressing support for leaders they believe can deliver effective governance as preparations for the next election gather momentum.
