Omoku town in the Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State was gripped by fear and mourning on Thursday after suspected cultists launched a violent attack that led to the death of the President of the Omoku Youth Federation, Comrade Ifeanyi Azuazu, and one other person.
The attack happened at about 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at a popular drinking spot along Ogolo Street, off Palace Road, in Omoku.

Eyewitnesses said about seven armed men, who arrived in two vehicles, stormed the area and appeared to have a clear target. On sighting Comrade Azuazu, they reportedly pointed their weapons at him and ordered him into one of the vehicles.
Tension escalated when Chigozie Oluwu, described as the youth leader’s personal aide, attempted to stop the attackers. He was shot on the spot, causing panic as residents and business owners fled the area for safety.
The gunmen then abducted Comrade Azuazu and drove off at high speed, leaving the community in shock.
Hope that the youth leader would be rescued alive faded on Friday afternoon when the Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Security and Planning Advisory Committee (OSPAC) confirmed the discovery of his body in a forest area of Omoku.
Confirming the incident, OSPAC spokesperson, Mr. Godnews Nkem, said the body was recovered several hours after the abduction.
“The body of Comrade Ifeanyi Azuazu was found after an intensive search following his abduction on Thursday evening,” Nkem said.
The killing has sparked renewed concerns over cult-related violence in Rivers State, with residents calling on security agencies to act swiftly to restore peace in Omoku and surrounding communities.
