By Saturday, Woro had become a ghost town.
A viral video sighted by our correspondent showed dozens of displaced residents who escaped to Wawa town in Niger State, gathered along the roadside. Several vehicles believed to have transported them from Kwara were parked nearby.
In the footage, women and children were seen huddled together under a temporary tent, while others sat on the bare ground, visibly exhausted and traumatised by the attack.
Confirming the situation, the Special Assistant to the Chairman of Kaiama Local Government Area, ZulQharnain Musa, told Sunday PUNCH that the entire community had been deserted.
“The whole community has been deserted as of Saturday. Residents have absconded to neighbouring communities, including Niger State and Kaiama town. Some who escaped through the thick forest later found themselves in Baruten,” Musa said.
He added that the Kaiama Local Government Chairman had notified security agencies, leading to the deployment of operatives to the area in a bid to restore calm and prevent further attacks.
As of the time of filing this report, many displaced residents remain without shelter, food, or medical care, while calls for urgent humanitarian assistance continue to grow.
