Nigerian singer May D has survived a road accident in Abuja, after his driver reportedly fell asleep while driving. The artist, whose real name is Akinmayokun Awodumila, confirmed the incident on social media, sharing images of an overturned vehicle and expressing gratitude for his life.

The singer broke the news on his Instagram Story, where he posted photos showing a badly damaged vehicle lying upside down. In his message, May D wrote:
“My driver slept off. Thank God for life. This was Abuja yesterday.”
The post quickly sparked concern among fans and colleagues, many of whom flooded social media with prayers and goodwill messages for the singer.
May D rose to fame in the early 2010s and remains one of the most recognisable voices of that era. His 2013 breakout single, Soundtrack, became a massive club hit, followed by popular songs such as Ile Ijo and So Many Tinz.
He also gained widespread attention after appearing on P-Square’s hit song Chop My Money, which featured American singer Akon and enjoyed heavy airplay across Africa and beyond.
Before launching his solo career, May D was signed to Square Records, the now-defunct label owned by Peter and Paul Okoye of P-Square, alongside their elder brother Jude Okoye. At the time, the label was among the most powerful in Nigeria’s music industry.
However, his stay with Square Records was short-lived. In 2012, May D parted ways with the label amid public disagreements. Both sides gave different versions of events, with the singer later alleging unfair treatment — claims the label’s founders strongly denied.
Despite the controversy, May D continued releasing music independently and remained relevant in the industry. Over the years, he has openly shared lessons from his journey, often advising young artists to understand contracts, protect their rights, and believe in themselves.
