The incident happened within the school premises in Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State. According to a family source, Hassan was buried later the same day in his hometown, Gadaka, located in Fika Local Government Area.

Although full details surrounding the incident are still unclear, a teacher at the school, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that the teenager had been facing bullying for a long time.

“He had complained several times. On Sunday, he begged them to stop, but they refused and attacked him. He was beaten badly and later died. The entire school was shocked,” the teacher said.

Confirming the development, the Yobe State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, said the police had launched an investigation to determine what truly led to the student’s death.

“Yes, we are aware of the incident, and an investigation is currently ongoing to ascertain what led to the death of the student,” Abdulkarim stated.

The teacher added that the school management acted swiftly after the incident.

“The students suspected to be involved were handed over to the police immediately. We hope justice will be served,” he said.

Efforts to get a reaction from the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Abba Idriss Adam, were unsuccessful, as he said he would respond later.

The incident has renewed calls for stricter measures against bullying in schools, especially in public institutions across Nigeria.
