Says Bashir Jamoh’s arrest violates 48-hour constitutional rule
Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has accused the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, of directing security agencies to carry out arrests without proper investigation.
Speaking during an interview with DCL Hausa, El-Rufai alleged that Ribadu bypasses due process by instructing agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to detain individuals without preliminary findings.

“Nuhu Ribadu just picks up his phone and calls any security outfit to arrest anybody without any form of investigation,” he claimed.
El-Rufai clarified that he was not accusing President Bola Tinubu of issuing such directives.
“It is not the NSA’s responsibility to call the EFCC and order the arrest of anyone. His role is to advise the President on security matters. If someone poses a security threat, he should brief the President, who would then order an investigation,” he said.

The former governor further alleged that the NSA interferes in judicial processes by influencing bail decisions. According to him, Ribadu pressures judges to deny bail to suspects who were allegedly not properly investigated.
“I feel ashamed remembering he was once my friend. Nobody is as wicked as Nuhu Ribadu in Tinubu’s administration,” El-Rufai stated.
He also referenced the reported arrest of former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Bashir Jamoh, by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in Kaduna.
El-Rufai questioned the basis for Jamoh’s detention and alleged that he had not been charged to court within the constitutionally required 48 hours.
“He is lying; they have not stopped. Even last week, they arrested Bashir Jamoh. What did he do?” he asked.
El-Rufai further expressed concern that he could be arrested in the near future.
