The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, told The Guardian on Thursday that operatives attached to the Ozoro Division apprehended a 26-year-old suspect, Friday Oghenemaro, on February 9, 2026, at about 2:00 p.m.

According to Edafe, the arrest took place during a proactive township patrol along Hospital Road, Ozoro, as part of ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities within the community.

“A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a locally made Beretta pistol concealed on him,” Edafe said.

He added that two other suspects escaped during the operation and are currently being tracked by the police.

Preliminary investigations, the police revealed, indicate that Oghenemaro is a member of the Aye confraternity, a cult group often linked to armed robbery, cult violence, and other violent crimes in parts of Delta State.

During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to owning the firearm since his secondary school days, claiming he carried the weapon due to his involvement in cult-related activities.

DSP Edafe stated that investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest the fleeing accomplices, as well as to determine the suspect’s possible links to armed robbery operations and cult-related violence in the area.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, praised the operatives for their alertness and professionalism.

“Proactive patrols and intelligence-led policing remain key to denying criminal elements the space to operate,” Adesola said.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to visibility policing, targeted patrols, and sustained intelligence-driven operations to ensure the safety of residents across Delta State.
