Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has condemned an attempted arrest by security agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, following his return from Cairo, Egypt.
During the operation, EFCC operatives reportedly seized El-Rufai’s international passport.

His lawyer, Ubong Esop Akpan, demanded the immediate return of the passport and threatened legal action, calling the operation an infringement on El-Rufai’s rights and dignity.

El-Rufai also took to X, describing the attempted arrest as illegal and stating:
“Our country must outgrow executive overreach and deliberate disregard for the rule of law.”
The former governor emphasized that respect for the rule of law is critical for Nigeria’s democratic growth.
