Obama warns rollback threatens public health and environmental protections.
Former US President Barack Obama has criticised the decision of the Donald Trump administration to revoke the federal endangerment finding, a central pillar of America’s climate framework.
The endangerment finding has served as the legal foundation for regulating vehicle emissions and pollution from power plants.

Reacting in a post on X, Obama cautioned that removing the measure would weaken safeguards designed to protect both public health and the environment.
He warned that the repeal would leave Americans “less safe” and “less healthy,” while undermining the country’s ability to effectively combat climate change.
According to him, dismantling the rule primarily benefits fossil fuel interests by easing regulatory constraints.
However, the Trump administration defended the move, arguing that reducing environmental regulations is necessary to eliminate bureaucratic hurdles and boost domestic energy production.
“Today, the Trump administration repealed the endangerment finding: the ruling that served as the basis for limits on tailpipe emissions and power plant rules. Without it, we’ll be less safe, less healthy and less able to fight climate change — all so the fossil fuel industry can make even more money,” Obama stated.
