He noted that whatever sacrifice is required to keep Nigeria united is worthwhile, stressing that national unity and excellence — rather than tribal considerations — guide his appointments.

Tinubu described Ihejirika as one of Nigeria’s finest generals who served at a critical period in the country’s history.

In a keynote address titled “The Role of Leadership in Strengthening National Security and Governance,” former Kaduna State governor, Ahmed Makarfi, emphasised the importance of visionary and inclusive leadership in addressing national security challenges.

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State said he deliberately hosted Ihejirika on the same day as the commissioning of key infrastructure projects to underscore good governance.

In his remarks, Ihejirika described the occasion as emotional and reflected on his years of service, stating that his experience across different parts of the country strengthened his belief in national unity.
